Here we are in The New Testament.  No proper understanding of The Old Testament would be complete, without covering the 'fulfillment' of much of The Law and prophets, which is witnessed within The New Testament. Galatians presents an excellent example of the foundations which Christianity rests upon, as does the Book of Romans. The Companion Bible has an insightful introduction to this Book of Galatians, and I include it below:

(Luke 1:1) Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, (Luk 1:2) Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;

(Luk 1:3) It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, (Luk 1:4) That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.

So many seemed to have been writing about the life of Jesus Christ that Luke being zealous of truth wanted to write about these things also to make sure everything was accurate. There were multitudes of witnesses to the events in the life of Jesus Christ. God made sure that we had an accurate inspired account of the things that pertain to eternal life and salvation.

(Luk 1:5) There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. (Luk 1:6) And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

God chose people who feared Him and loved His word to bring forth the forerunner of the Messiah. God will use us today if we are determined to seek Him and make ourselves available to Him. We do not choose what we want to do though, God will decide what is best for our capabilities. God does the calling but we must be willing vessels.
