As a diligent student of the Bible, you will want to make sure the Bible really says what this study says.  Always remember to test all things with God's word - as the Bereans did.  They "received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily, to see whether these things were so" (Acts 17:11).

First, read the study all the way through, without looking up the Scriptures.   Then read the study again, this time looking up the Scriptures.  Highlight or mark each verse you look up so you can easily find it later.

Many years ago, wild animals such as tigers, lions and large bears roamed all over the earth.  It was even common to see people who were not sheep herders carrying a staff in their hands for protection from these wild animals.  As time passed, hunters and trappers thinned out the animals in certain areas to make the land habitable for people.   Coats were made from the mink, beaver, rabbit and fox harvested by hunters.

God told Moses to raise a contribution to Him in the form of goat hair, ram skins and porpoise skins (Ex. 26:7, 14).  In order for this to happen, Moses had to instruct the people do some hunting and fishing.  Yes, fishing is just as much hunting as is hunting animals on land.  Leviticus 11 lists all the animals that may be hunted for food.  Esau hunted for venison.  Many people went partridge hunting in the mountains (1 Sam. 26:20).  All these are God’s creatures.  They all have hearts, eyes and blood.

What is God’s attitude about hunting?  God eats meat and is not a vegetarian (Gen. 18:1, 8).  God’s word says that a slothful man does not use what he shoots, but he just lets it lay (Prov. 12:27).  This does not please God.  But if a man hunts and then uses it for food for himself or shares it with others, God is well-pleased.  Perhaps he might even teach others to hunt, as a father teaches his children.

The attitude in which one goes to hunt is important.  Will it do good?  Will others benefit from it? Does your heart condemn what you are doing?  If not, neither does God (1 John 3:21; Rom. 14:22).  Let not man judge you in regard to hunting, whether it be for food or for the hide of the animals, but just make sure you please God, according to His word.
